Prairie Village Renovation - Bubb Cribb Team- High Drive Project - Week #3.5 - Goodbye Landscaping, Stained Floors, Tile....

Welcome Back to our Prairie Village - High Drive Home Makeover!

Check out the progress on this visual tour of our latest updates.  We finished week three with some good hard physical labor, got to work on staining and choosing the floors and we get a preview of our week #4 handiwork as our quartz counter-tops just arrived!

The week in review...

Hey Miki Your So Fine - Look who stopped in for a visit, our good friend Miki Jarrett had a look at the digs and we worked on her making sure Drew Six could stop in for an autograph signing concert in the backyard!

Team Cribb - Meg, Chris, Ellie & Rosie did our own heavy lifting and ripped out all of the crazy growth in the front landscaping beds.  Now a blank slate to make our own come springtime!

Dad - Will you wear your POLO too today?  Ellie is looking sassy modeling the new stairs and freshly laid carpet headed to the finished basement.

Carpet installed downstairs - looks good ready to bring in the interior designers and our furniture!  Let's just hope we can get everything down the stairs and past the railing!

Why Yes - I will take a nice cup of Espresso - First glimpse at the floor colors chosen by Miss Meg, they look nice, we went darker, it reminded me of an espresso, that might not be the true color, but it's close!

You Pull Up The Floor To Find... It's an old house and in both of the bathrooms, as I believe you would find in many others we pulled up the floors to find we needed to repair the sub-flooring before making our new tile plan come through.

First Past - The dark contrasts well against the Pink Stripes - Rosie's bedroom after the first coat is applied.

Casa De Cribb Master Bedroom - The dark floors do help contrast and bring more blue out of the walls with the touch of green, more of a beach feeling coming every day!

First Glimpse - Bathroom Tile is in for Bathroom #1 - oh boy does it look better than before!

Side Note - As we broke into the bathroom fun for the Master Bath we realized that at some point an old tile had been removed to get rid of a towel rack... the problem is the replacement tiles were painted with what tended to look like white out.  We were able to salvage a few replacement tiles from the vanity in the bathroom - so note to all renovators out there - KEEP A FEW EXTRA TILES!

Hallmark Stone - Dropped in on Monday with a great gift, new counter-tops - quartz white with a vein of silver running through, great guys, quick efficient and everything looks ready to be finished!

Installed and Ready - One shot here of the new counter-top bar area between the kitchen and the living room, very happy we made the choice to replace this with the same style and cut.

Progress continues and we are excited to have you drop back in soon for the next stages!  If you have any questions, comments or would like a sneak peek into our The Bubb Cribb Team contractor database of partners (or would like to be one yourself) shoot us a message at thebubbcribbteam@reecenichols.com!

Prairie Village Renovation - Bubb Cribb Team- High Drive Project - Week #3 - Wallpaper, Start on Flooring, Railing & More...

Welcome Back to our Prairie Village - High Drive Home Makeover!

Check out the progress on this visual tour of our latest updates.  We finish week 2 and our construction team rounds out their 1st set of projects and our flooring, tile and wallpaper team ramps up for week #3.

Step 1 - Join the HOA - We love Prairie Village and just received our HOA welcome packet for Prairie Hills Homeowners Association!

Good bye Wooden Mantle - time for a makeover, light whitewash, crown molding & a flat screen TV... does anyone happen to have a good electronics installer?

The Kitchen Taking Shape - Kitchen cabinets now are 95% installed, refaced, sprayed / painted inside and out with only a few left to be put in place once the counter-tops and back-splash are installed.  Please welcome our newest addition to the contracting crew, Crider Carpet, is now on the job and just installed the new hardwood kitchen floors to match the rest of the house!

Playroom / Dining Room - Paint has given a fresh coat of life to many of the rooms - check out the new playroom with a touch of soft green.  Floor to ceiling windows also have been framed out with a fresh coat of stark white paint.

The Management Team - Ms. Ellie dropped in to check on the progress of her playroom!

Decorative & Functional - Another goodbye - goodbye metal railing with scrolling floral pattern.   With all the new changes, it just did not fit; good call Megan & Sue.  Check out the first of the new post, railings and spindles to take you downstairs & to the garage.

Mud Room / Welcome - New door welcomes you to the garage and into the house daily.  Bead board entry creates a mud-room area that will continue with hooks / shelves for the daily coat, backpack & key drop.

We moved the door to enter into the upper level of the stairs instead of the lower, our new challenge created... how do we now get the big furniture downstairs... ugh - lesson learned!

Refinish The Floors - Sanding of the original hardwood floors well underway, ready for refinishing next week.  Monday, Sept. 22nd is decision day as the first floor stain applications will be reviewed to establish the colors matched throughout the home; do this one yourself, don't delegate it!

New Stairs - You climb them everyday, and over time they get some wear and tear, we therefore added new flooring treads on the stairs heading up to the bedroom level.  One small detail in the bigger picture, but this area is well improved with the change and brought the squeaks down a decibel! :)

Carpets - gone, thank goodness!  This first look at the floor condition underneath was about "as expected" and the 2nd Bedroom / 3rd Bedroom + Hallway carpet are gone.

Which room is this?  Quick glimpse at the finished paint color for the Master Bedroom, a unique blue tone with hints of island sea colors make this room pop while still being a neutral palate for wall accouterments and furnishings.

Rosie's Room - Just finished, white and pink striped wallpaper looks great, inviting and warm!

Full Bath #1 - Classy white and yellow wallpaper compliments the yellow tile in this hall bathroom. This picture doesn't do justice to how great it looks - more to come!

;

Ellie's room - wallpaper finished and looking great - hard to see from this angle, but a soft pink with white polka dots give each little lady their own pink experience!

Final shot for this week - Master bath gets its own wallpaper as well.  A mix of greens with patterned blue intertwined the paper pulls out more blue from the walls in the bedroom, another nice compliment!

Prairie Village Renovation - Bubb Cribb Team- High Drive Project - Week #3 - 2nd Week Catch Up!

Here we go, let week #2 / #3 continue...

In the course of the last 5 days since the previous post we are now roughly 15 days in to our renovation project in Prairie Village.  Many behind the scenes decisions are starting to come to life in the space and the trips to Home Depot still continue (paint your dark wood white, it takes a few coats)!

Here are the latest progress photos and we will do a large update later this week on Thursday when our main contracting crew takes a breather and allows our flooring / back-splash in Kitchen to take over.

Anyone remember this classic Tom Hanks movie, The Money Pit? Not quite feeling this way yet, but I do think even if Tom had Microsoft Excel to keep the budget there would still be problems on this house - catch the trailer it is good for a time warp to 1986!

The Next Steps & Good Partners

What will be happening next, glad you asked?  Crider Carpet,  a recommendation from our great friends, Matt Goodwin with Cornerstone Home Lending & Dev Van Dyne with Golden Home Inspections will be handling the following (sorry Mr. Bobb Cobb if we end up giving you some scope creep as well):

  • All new hardwoods are being installed in the kitchen floor (better for your knees than tile floors and helps tie in the other rooms).
  • New white subway tile back-splash is being set in the kitchen.
  • New quartz counter-tops being installed in the kitchen and also on the bar between the kitchen and hearth room.
  • All carpet is being ripped out and removed.
  • New stair trends upstairs and down with carpet runner.
  • All of the existing hardwood floors are being refinished on the first and second floors for a cohesive, slightly dark, espresso wood finish.
  • New tile floors in each of the bathrooms being installed (and later the new vanities).
  • The new railing heading upstairs and down will be complemented with new large tile floors on the landing heading in from the garage and both up and down.  This area also has just had a great new bead-board mudroom aspect added, a little bit of texture in the right spot can go a long way!
  • New carpet in the entire downstairs area for the office / playroom / man cave & non-conforming 4th bedroom / new off season wardrobe closet for Miss Megan! :)
Progress From The Last Few Days!

Bad Granite Tiles... Goodbye - Ready for the new matching quartz countertops!

Found - One Praying Mantis - Mr. Cribb took a few hours on Saturday to help with some "sweat equity" and took a large bite out of the overgrown landscaping.  No more lavender plants that attract all of the bee's and no more smelly onions either.  Fortunately no bee stings and this little guy was found hiding in the mulch,

Batman Found A New Home - After finding our winged friend behind the shutters, I found the acid wash that I gave to the concrete floors in the unfinished basement (before being painted) was a great solution to remove that grime and guano from the side of the house.

Time for another KC Crown - Touching every wall, Meg and Sue made that correct decision to add crown molding everywhere and even take down some of the more 70s styled pieces.  Great job contractor crew, tight corners here in the entryway it looks great and is in all of the bedrooms, entry, living, dining, etc...

Cabinet Land - The kitchen cabinet doors all got a face lift with new design, square and modern and a 1st and 2nd coat of paint.  Add the new hinges and the crown molding in the kitchen and it is looking much better!  We can't wait to see the finished product, but the work in progress is equally impressive.  Note to renovators - find a large space for your team to spray items like these - the more at once the better and better for your pocketbook!

The Doors - A great band and when we were touching everything else it was just one of those details we needed to also replace to make the transformation top notch instead of halfway there.  At around $40.00 each it costs a bit, but the uniformity and crisp new feel is great

Kitchen In Progress - Painting is underway, cabinet doors you can see are taking a rest.  Just like our friends The Property Brothers we decided to keep most of the structure and shape of the kitchen, First step, reface all of the cabinet doors, then remove the oven, donated the electric cook-top stove / built in microwave for a fresh start.  We are replacing these with a new stainless steel freestanding oven / gas range with built in hood / microwave in one space (removing the cabinet below) and tuning the previous oven space into a cabinet with vertical storage for all of those pans, serving trays, etc... that need the tall, but skinny space,  One last touch, removed the fancy wood carving over the sink... it just didn't fit in the modern kitchen!

Kitchen In Progress II - You have to break a few eggs to make a good omlete,  Good view of the new oven space turned into a vertical storage cabinet.

Prairie Village Renovation - Bubb Cribb Team- High Drive Project - Week #2

Progress continues on our renovation in Prairie Village, take a look at what one solid week of progress has brought forth.  We are posting a few days behind, we will try to catch up.  This is the 2nd week, Days 6-10 or so.

#1 - Creating Some Trash - The Bagster Is getting some use, so we ordered a 2nd!

#2 - Shutters and Bats:  We had to take down the shutters for a new BLACK paint job, what do we find behind shutter number one?  More hornets, bees, no - not this time we find another winged creature, a BAT has made it's home at the house.

Batman was just a cute little guy until we started showing him away... three grown men on a ladder with bags, moving quicker than lightning; how fun!  Needless to say he now has a new home, just not sure where?

#3 - Staging Area In The Garage - The garage has been turned into the construction staging zone for construction efforts!

#4 - Move That Door - In a stroke of simple genius Sue Bubb noted the awkward entrance from the garage to head upstairs or down, it was a bit of a hazard and why it was built like that I don't quite understand.  What I do know is that the new door is in and is a major improvement.  Next week the old door disappears!

#5 - The White Room - Paint Crew getting at the work downstairs, the dark, rough wood has fallen away for a nice white palate.  Paint on the carpet, sure - why not it's going in the trash soon anyway.  Painting before the new carpet and hardwood floors was recommended.

#6 - Kitchen in Progress - Goodbye Cabinets and Appliances - Deconstruction has begun in the kitchen with several appliances out of the way and counter-tops gone. One step at a time in the kitchen, the oven location has now taken over a catch all location until it also gets a makeover.

#7 - Kitchen in Progress - Say goodbye Mr. Oven, Mr. Microwave With No Handle & Ms. Washing Machine.  Mr. Fridge; we will welcome you back soon with new "matched friends" that have also been picked out this week at Lowe's, Home Depot & Nebraska Furniture Mart!

#8 - It Is Hard To Remove Bad Kitchen Floors - We dug in on ripping up the kitchen floors and had to go a layer to find what was beneath.  A glued together mess was the reality, don't worry - new hardwoods are coming soon!

#9 - Ready for Paint - Staged and ready for paint, the crew has been working very hard to tape and seal each window.  It's a painstaking process, we just wonder do you get the job as "Tape Guy" if you show up late that day, pick the longest straw, or have the worst hangover!  :)

#10 - Bathrooms Ready For The Makeover - Master bath deconstructed - no more vanity, new is yet to come!

#11 - Master Bedroom Purple - Just one more great shot of that PURPLE bedroom, doesn't it look GLORIOUS!

#12 - Can You Guess What This Is?  Full Bath number two is ready for a makeover as well... don't forget - leave a toilet for your workers, can't have the productive team heading up to Quick Trip every hour just for a bio break!

The fun continues next week and we even get our hands dirty doing some work of our own!  One week down and lots of progress.  See you next week as we jump into crown molding, kitchen cabinets, bead-board entry way & much more!  It was nice to see Home Depot here in Kansas City send a hand written note to Megan this week; we are dropping a few bills there.  Megan has chosen the- 9600 Metcalf Home Depot as her favorite!  :)

Any feedback or questions, give us a shout, would love to hear from you!

Cheers!

Prairie Village Renovation - Bubb Cribb Team- High Drive Project Preview Day 1!

The Bubb Cribb Team purchased a house...

Spacious PV Split with formal living rm & 1st floor family rm w/fireplace & hardwood floors. Basement is perfect rec room/play room + office/hobby room with inside entrance. Neutral interior paint, (north side of house to be painted, there was a weather delay) some updates in bathrooms & kitchen, extra deep 2 car garage, large backyard with patio, very close to Belinder Elementary & middle school bus stops.

Yes these were the MLS Details - almost a text only version. We saw it the 1st day it came on the market and realized was there was good potential.  Nice quiet street in a great area, this house was ready for a FAMILY to make it a home.  Day 1 of renovations is underwraps, quite a bit accomplished.  30 Day home makeover!

Take a tour with our team as we transform this great house and show how Kansas City / Prairie Village homes can be redone to create the "new" that everyone wants, while keeping the classic elements. We are using what we can and any of the vintage and resuseable materials and appliances will be donated to Habitat Restore - the arm of Habitat for Humanity - KC .  Just dropped off the first load, they don't take dishwashers, but they seemed very eager to grab the  flat top range, microwave, and wooden / tile table to make shabby chic!

Our 1st " Bagster" is half full and the project on the new house is underway.  :)  Join us on the 30 day adventure, a different type of Prairie Village Makeover!
