Renovation Update - Week 5 - What Happens Pre Moving Day...

Ok, I must admit, moving day put us a week behind on the blog...

Let`s take a look at the last pieces added before move in day!

1) Princess Rosie - A chandelier for each Cribb princess; up first Rosie, thank Rensen House of Lights!  With the more formal striped look we did a elegant but simple central lighting.

2) Ellie chandelier - a 2nd Rensen House of Lights purchase, white in Rosie's room, traditional crystal for Ellie.  Contrast here went opposite as the more informal walls called for a more formal crystal centerpiece.

3) New TUB - Well it sure looks new.  We opted for re-glazing of the tub, but as we replaced the water spigot for the tub our "He-Man" of a contractor reglazing the tub broke it right out of the wall.  Long story short, contingency pan executed.  Take a look a the original yellow tile in the bathroom, because that is the last time you will see it.  We had to rip out tiles and put a new shower control valve in for the tub, we didn't have tile to match that was 50 years old so... time to update the tile in the bathroom.

Soon to come new pictures of the white subway tile in the bathroom - at first I didn't think I would like it, but now I LOVE it.  Garth Brooks has a song I have always liked "Unanswered Prayers", that is now how I feel about this piece of our new home, it was supposed to change, I just didn't know it at first!

4) Ready to go - The new spindles and stairwell post are a VAST improvement over the iron / wire on the staircase before.  It fits and helps update the space nicely; the matched color to the dark floors and contrast with white spindles works well!

5) First Room Complete - The Playroom - When you have 2 little girls, the priorities change.  We are ready to start work in the house unpacking, etc... so our #1 priority was to give the girls a place to play and call their own as we un-boxed and settled in.  Ikea bookshelves turned out lovely and the pink kitchen is now in place.  The small central table is just kid sized; the blackboard / chalk paint make it a great place for projects

6) Playroom - 2nd  view - Note the baskets to keep the playroom organized and picked up.

7) Keep Your Receipts - The picture below shows the large crack in the marble of the top of the restroom vanity.  Ordered and returned, the problem becomes not the customer service, but the sheer size and weight of returning a huge item.  One team to pickup one team to bring new unit, one team to install new vanity; a custom piece from Home Depot.com - there was no returning it to the store.

8) Room #2 Finished - The Kitchen - White, clean lines and stainless - white subway tile and Megan made our first meal in the new kitchen as well

9) The Little Things Matter - We installed a couple USB plug ports next to our desks, the charging time is "supposed" to be significantly quicker than with the plug adapters.  With our without the energy help just being able to have a couple items already plugged in and still use the port means no unplugging the light to charge up your cell phone.  Find them on Amazon.com

10) Kitchen Hardware - The modern lines on these longer kitchen cabinet pulls were a strong fit, thanks Lowes...

11) Breaking A Few Eggs - The question, paint the house first and do the floors 2nd of vice-versa?  We did the majority of our painting first and then our floors were refinished by Crider Carpet.  It is not an exact science and the stain process did get on the trim quite a bit in places.  We had to do an extra set of painting trim clean up before moving in (and also adding the shoe at the bottom of the new floors).  Overall a bit of extra work, but Crider Carpet stepped up and took ownership of the mistake and paid for the trim and painting touch up.

12) Good Reminder - Removing the floor vents caused quite a bit of damage in two different places as the fresh paint had "glued" them into the wall.  The painters should have removed before painting, in this case the floor refinishing team pulled out the vents and took quite a bit of paint (and in another place wall paper with it.

13) Water Line - My suggestion, just change them out when you are under construction, once things are finished just a little bit of rust shows and your eye jumps to it.

14) Free Stuff - The free stuff sign got rid of things on busy Mission road rather fast.  The item picked up and put down the most - wait for it...   BOOKS.  They might as well have been dirty socks as most people who peaked in the box and saw books quickly closed it back up.  Last items from Club 7100 are going soon - possibly a Yard Sale - possibly bring back the Free Stuff sign!

15) Kansas City is Royals Crazy as we drive to #TakeTheCrown - the super comeback in the Houston Astros series was a classic and with a current 3 games to 2 lead and 2 possible HOME games to finish the series this weekend #WeBelieve we can head back to the World Series & this time bring home a ring - just a couple shots from around town! #BlueOctober

GO ROYALS!

Renovation Update - Week 4 - Bubb Cribb Team #PVKS - High House Project - Wood Floors / Tile Floors / Kitchen Backsplash & More

Renovation Update - Week #4

September is gone, October is here, once again the KC Chiefs appear to suck (sorry if there is anyone that is younger and didn't know that every 2 or 3 years they turn into a pumpkin).  :) Congrats KC Royals on willing the American League Central and bringing home field advantage back to KC!

95 Wins - Celebrate with a 95 Point Wine - saw one of these in my cellar the other day - Bodegas Muga Selecion Especial Reserva - Usually under $50.00 and worth a hundred each time!

OK - Now back to the High House project..

Step One - Power-wash & Mow - I personally pulled out the power-washer and spent the afternoon blowing out the spiderwebs, years of debris, wasp nests, etc... we paired it up with having all of the house windows professionally cleaned, storms put on correctly and screens put in place.  Long story short, it helped.  I would put this one on the once a year spring cleaning list!

Power-wash Continued - This door appeared to be beige with brown, but five minutes of power-washing later it actually was white!  Also me the neighbor who let me know the outside light by this door has been left on for the last 11 days straight.  Whoops!

Step Two -  Wood Floors - The second coats are done and the wood floors look great, here is  shot of them in the master bedroom.  A nice even matched coat all across the house!

Step Three - Tile Floors - Master bath tile finished and also looks great, had a hiccup as the master eye (aka Megan) noticed that the pattern was slightly off and that it was going to drive her nuts seeing it every day.  Redone and fixed, love the simple colors and strong pattern.

Tile Floors in the Hall Bath - Check out how great the floors look with the classy wallpaper and we still brought in the lighter yellow (original) tile to bring the old and new together.

Here Comes The Subway - The white subway tile is in, check it out how looks with a bit of the new quartz countertops.  Bright and inviting this is a lovely change of pace for the kitchen and undoubtabely will be the social contact point for the house!

Subway Tile - Another angle on the new kitchen tile and new faucet installed!

Glossy and Glamorous - We loved the large plank boards and kept them, a touch you won't find in a new house, we kept those for sure and are happy with the refinishing!

Laundry Room - Not a very "hot shot" of the furnace, but I put some extra sweat and labor in the painting of the floor in the laundry room for a more "finished feel" in this unfinished space.  Acid washed the concrete and then painted / stained it.  Plans for the garage as well - probably go more grey than this camel color, but it goes nicely with the new carpet in finished basement.

Take #2 - Entry Tile From Garage - We came over to the house and low and behold the flooring team was cruising ahead of schedule, the problem, they had used the WRONG TILE.  Reason number 233 why you need to keep a check on your renovations.  They took up the modern black tiles with a light line that they had originally installed and put in what we actually ordered!

Moving day is set for October 10th with movers hired and ready to go.  Lots of installation, appliances and deliveries set this week from Home Depot, Lowes & Nebraska Furniture Mart + the main team gets back to hang doors, finish hardware in the kitchen, touchup paint and much more!

Have a great week!
