Renovation Update - Week 8 - Moved In & Loving It - High Drive House

Sorry for the delay, the family is now moved in and loving our new home!  Most of the boxes are unpacked and we are officially out of our previous Prairie Village Home!

Have a look at the finished project, there is more to come on the process and updates, but the stress of the move has finally subsided. No more contractors coming to the house daily, no more eating take out without vegetables & we even hosted friends / family over this weekend with wine &cheese to celebrate!

1) Forest Green Shutters Are Gone - Exterior work was rather small in comparison to the interior - two must haves in this picture, all of the exterior shutters were changed to a flat black color and reinstalled just in time for winter!  A new glass front storm door accompanied the shutters and the front door paint is coming soon. We have loved the black and therefore will be bringing the black to the door as well (although it was a tough decision from choosing a bold red instead, sometimes classic and understated is better than bold),

2) Time For Dining - We love to entertain so decided to flip the formal living room space into the formal dining room space.  Great accent pieces go around the room and the new kitchen table has 3 expansion pieces; the table of 6 can go formal for a big dinner and hold 12 very comfortably.  A great designer / friend suggested we bring out and display our Mottahedeh Tobacco Leaf China - we used small china display stands in our antique bookshelves, lovely choice!  This china has a bit of a backstory...

ALLIE MASONI will never forget a few years back buying over a dozen of these lovely fine china plates from our good friend and chef, John McClure of Starker's Reserve for a Megan Bubb Cribb Christmas present!  He was a lovely man and seeing them every day helps celebrate his life and makes us all think of good times at Starker's enjoying world class food and wine on the Country Club Plaza!

3) Great Rooms To Relax  - Not the best pictures, you may need to see it in person to understand, but our Living Room, Breakfast Bar transition into the Kitchen turned out perfect.  We opted to mount the TV directly to the brick fireplace, outfitted the room with a new couch from Nebraska Furniture Mart and pulled in new bookshelves, a great overhang lamp from West Elm and a new living room carpet that our little 5 month old, Rosie Cribb, is using to learn how to crawl daily (her favorite move is to go backwards under the chair next to the fireplace)! :)

Also not the best Kitchen picture, but we love the quartz counter-tops, stainless steel appliances, new wood floors, updated cabinets and bright light... this is going to be a highlight of the before and after blog coming soon!

4) Office Number One - As REALTORS we get to work at home, nights, weekends, etc... and having a dedicated work-space was a must have.  This is Megan's power desk and she shares it with the girls playroom, just off the kitchen.  Nice to proudly display her diploma from Lynn University and recognition as a American Royal BOTAR.  The dedicated USB charging outlet was also a simple must have choice if you are redoing your office space!

5) Rosie's Room & Ellie's Room - The striped walls, vintage curtains, and even her own crib make this a lovely space (Rosie even has spent a full week sleeping through the night in her new room)!  Losing the crib hardware, nuts, bolts, etc... put this room behind schedule for a couple weeks, don't loose faith if you can't find something in your boxes, it is probably there, it just might take a bit to find it.

Princess Ellie is also set and loving her new room!  Crowned with a lovely tiara and her own beautiful pink flowered vintage couch, everything came together after Sue Bubb found an outstanding antique 6 piece bedroom set perfect for E.  A great deal, only one catch, it was located in North Platte, Nebraska...  I extend a quick thank you out to my brother, Todd Cribb, who braved 7 hours each way with me in a cargo van to go pickup the goods and hang out for an evening before coming home.  We had a great time, brothers road trip and took in a couple Royals victories via the old school radio and soaked up some North Platte culture hanging for an evening with Gary Lang at Brother's Tavern in NP.

6) Master Bath & Bedroom - After one cracked vanity, a shower control unit that had to be ripped out and re-tiled, two medicine cabinets that didn't fit and the family living for a few weeks with only one restroom, we finally have the Master Bath finished and lovely.  Wallpaper and white tile with new vanity, custom tile floor & two mirrored medicine cabinets leave it perfect for daily living.  Note to our remodeling friends, if you are redoing a shower - make sure you take a look at the hardware given to you in the shower door kit... every screw in the kit had to be cut down by our contractor crew to be able to fit in the previously set holes, very fun!  Lowes and Home Depot were both very good about taking back our extra hinges, light switches, etc... just make sure to be NICE!

Master Bedroom Turned Out Lovely - More Pictures To Come

7) Welcome Downstairs - Family Room, Chris Cribb Office, Extra / 4th Bedroom & Wine Cellar / Utility Room - One of the best things we love about this renovation is that we took the old, dirty basement and brightened it up, created several new living spaces from the open concept and area & put our signature on it!

We did encounter a true challenge, of our own making, when we moved the entry door / garage entrance to home a few feet. A small move that makes sense, we eliminated the awkward entry from the garage, but we in-turn created a very limited ability to bring large items in from the garage and into the finished basement. :)

One large couch returned to Nebraska Furniture Mart and a few trips to IKEA to take back the pre-built 8 ft. wardrobe units we purchased and we made it work!  The beauty of IKEA is that things breakdown... I un-assembled the wardrobe units to rebuild them both in the downstairs bedroom and the 2 piece coral couch folds out into a bed and was tight, but fit in the stairwell.

Big Screen 60" TV and Stereo System in recessed / built in shelves make this a great movie space!

One reassembled wardrobe and a part of Megan's shoe collection!

8) The Garage - Where does everything go when you can't find a place for it... the garage - don't worry it is next on the list... a few more trips to donate items at Habitat Restore and we will be able to park a couple cars (and Megan's new R Series Mercedes - Thanks Aristocrat Motors) in the garage!  I love Prairie Village, but the lovely Cape Cod's all across the area with the one car garage; I am very happy to say goodbye & hello to both cars being in the garage!
